30 DAY CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MEME;;
DAY SIX (x)
Why do they have their resources? How long have they had them, and how have they served the character over time? (Ex. Contacts, money, political power, fame, etc.) Really the only resource Lyanna has is the name she was born with, Stark, which she often cannot acknowledge, but which has been traded upon for her entire life. Really the only reason that Elia and Rhaegar picked her was because she was of noble blood (and because she was in a bad position of her own, also a result of her name– I don’t think Robert would have wanted to marry her if she weren’t a Stark), and it’s because of who she was that she was welcomed into Doran’s household. Simply put, none of this would have ever happened to a common girl.
Conversely, Lyanna’s recognition and acceptance of this fact allows her to trade on her name continuously. Obviously not while she lived under an assumed name in Dorne, but upon her return to the rest of Westeros, her initial priority is 100% restoring the Starks and she therefore uses her name in order to gain passage, meet with other noble houses, find her nephew, and negotiate with potential allies (Stannis, etc.). Particularly in verses where she goes overseas to find more allies, all she really shows up with is her name and a prayer. Her pitch is always one of reciprocity– if you can help us clear the Boltons and end the war, we can help you fight whatever it is you’re fighting. This is not a good deal particularly, as she doesn’t come with gold or provisions or much of anything really to show her good faith. What she has, however, is her name and reputation– the Starks in the North, a reputation of honor and duty.
Other resources one might consider is the network of people who came to know her during her travels for Dorne, who may or may not decide to help her once her true identity is revealed. Many people don’t take kindly to being lied to, and I imagine many doors closed to her when she claimed the name Stark again. So really, all Lyanna has is her name, reputation, and a few friends, and she fully intends to use these to secure the North. Kind of crazy when you think about it.
